Tata Motors Launches Nano In Sri Lanka

Tata Motors today launched its small car Nano in Sri Lanka and plans to market the ultra-cheap car in other countries also.

Sri Lanka is the first country where the company has launched its product, apart from India, and there are plans to market the car in other countries too, the company said in a statement.

"We have already formulated plans for its introduction in several countries, to be implemented over the next few years," Tata Motors managing director PM Telang said.

The company is also introducing five new commercial vehicles in Sri Lanka, Tata Divo, Tata Marcopolo, Tata Prima, Tata Truck and Tata Super Ace.

"Tata Motors has already established a firm footprint in international markets. We will now scale up on this foundation, judiciously choosing appropriate geographies and addressing unmet consumer needs with our portfolio.

The Tata Nano will play a major role in the next phase of growth of our international business," Group CEO of Tata Motors managing director Carl-Peter Forster said.

The introduction of the Tata Nano in international markets coincides with the Golden Jubilee of Tata Motors' international business whichbegan with Sri Lanka in 1961 in association with Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, the company's distributor, it said.

In 2010-11, the company exported 58,044 vehicles to over 40 countries including South Asia, South East Asia, West Asia, Africa, Europe and South America.
